Do Something Hard
Graduation is the ability to
finish the race; the acceptance
of the challenge that lies in
the road and the perseverance
to overcome obstacles that
attempt to stagnate progress
and impede victory. However,
in this life, there should not
be an option of quitting.
There should never be a strategy for opting out or accepting defeat. The ability to finish
should be ingrained, expected, demanded, and assumed. The understanding
that challenges will be present
should be welcomed, and
sought after, embraced and
overcome.
Graduation is the benchmark
of your success that the journey, that uphill battle of challenging your mind to work
the way it was designed, to
push through to the end, is
won. As you look back, you
will see many fallen short of
the victory; many have succumbed to the easy way out.
You are one of the few, the
decorated warrior of the
mind, the Graduate. Congratulations.

There was a time when what
we call children today were
considered doctors, nurses,
generals, heads of households.
The entitlement attitude has
become an excuse for failure
rather than seen as an afforded opportunity to progress
further than yesterday. It is
seen as a reason to rest, to
cast work onto someone else
in order to embrace the comforts of life. Education is a
privilege, not a right. It is
hard. It is challenging. There
are moments of victory, and
failure. There are moments of
disappointment and fleeting
seconds of simplistic ease. It is
our duty and obligation to be
born to do something hard.
