“Success is working at
a job you l o ve. ”
- Andrea Bodnar
Senior Producer, Astral Media
She makes mini movies all day long.
As the Senior Producer at Astral Media, Andrea
Bodnar, 34, completes many projects for The Movie
Network and HBO Canada. You know those
attractive promos shown between program breaks?
That’s her. “An average day usually consists of
writing scripts, editing to the picture and designing
a graphic look that compliments our brand,” she
says.
STAYING TRENDY IS TOUGH.
Bodnar says, “everything is always due yesterday” in
the TV world. This isn’t the only aspect that makes
a fast-paced career challenging. “Viewers are savvy
and can see right through formulas these days,”
she says of program content. “I strive to make
everything unique and unconventional.” Working
independently as an editor and graphic designer,
Bodnar is always on the radar for images in vogue.
A SHORT ATTENTION SPAN PAYS OFF.
A winner of over 25 Promax awards (International
Association of Entertainment Marketing
Professionals), the Oscars of the media world,
Bodnar is reaping the rewards of putting images to
words. “I’m a five time finalist this year,” she quips.
“That never gets boring.” With an Honours BA in
Stage and Screen studies from Queen’s University,
Bodnar always wanted to work with movies in
focus, so a career in broadcast was the best choice.
FROM WORK TO LEISURE, IT’S ALWAYS ON
SCREEN.
During her free time, Bodnar is still watching
movies. Sharing this passion with her film critic
boyfriend, she “could spend the whole day jumping
from theatre to theatre” watching blockbusters,
independent films and genres off the map. The only
letdown for Bodnar may be the snack options.
“I feel like I am 40 per cent popcorn butter,” she
says. Since we are what we eat, and popcorn is the
fare of film, it’s quite fitting for now.
