Picture this: a bouncy preteen is rapt with attention, eyes glued to her living room TV screen. MuchMusic is on; it’s Much On Demand (set your imaginations to Canadian television circa early noughties), music video after music video populates the hour. Soon enough, the VJ comes back on camera, happy and gleaming. She banters on about her favourite artist, whose music video was just on. She also apparently has an exclusive interview with said artist, coming up next. Our preteen has a few things on her mind: one) that last music video by that Disney teen queen was a tad too awesome , and two) how in the world did that girl on screen score that dream job. This is standard Canadian preteen life, early mornings or after schools with MuchMusic. And that, dearest friends, was essentially MuchMusic VJ Liz Trinnear’s preteen life. Fast forward to her adulthood, and the bombastically blonde Trinnear is living the dream. Repping London, Ontario as her hometown and the University of Western Ontario as her educational background, Trinnear successfully forayed into her field of study (music and media) with one little audition tape. Winning the Much VJ Search would be a dream come true for any music-oriented media studies student. Trinnear won, taking her high-heels and high energy into what should be a solid career. Fingers are crossed for a Jeanne Beker or George Stroumboulopoulos sense of appeal. A girly-girl in the truest sense of the word, Trinnear is rapturous. She possesses a flighty je nai se quoi that keeps her audiences on their toes. She dresses like an it-girl, she’s got thousands of followers on her myriad of social media platforms, she thrives on music and pop culture. It’s no surprise that she beat out 4000 other hopefuls. She had the personality, the education and a cool “with-it” attitude. Isn’t that what any pop culture TV personality strives for?
