Shop online at: www.thestoreonqueen.com As Angela puts it, “I’d say we’ve graduated from business partners to life partners.” Their play on gender roles has become a big part of their personas and draw. If Vava is Barbie, always blonde and tanned, dripping in bling, heels, and pink, Angela is Ken, favouring black menswear, androgyny, and drawing fake mustaches on herself for photo shoots, or just for fun! They have nicknamed themselves Wifee and Hubby, and their tens of thousands of followers love seeing their antics play out online. The girls have admirers from around the world who travel to Toronto just to shop at their store and meet the faces of TSOQ, but Vava and Ang never set out to be Instagram stars. “It took on a life of its’ own, there was no real plan,” Angela remembers. “We didn’t get onto Instagram until eight months into our first year. Vava had no real interest in posting and we would post one photo a day. Then we started posting about our own lives and developed a relationship with our followers and the traffic grew and grew. We actually did a survey and everyone’s response was that they wanted to see us in the clothes instead of models, so we started posting our Instagram photos online and that was it! Now you will see us on your feed around ten times a day, showing you what’s new in stock and different ways of wearing it.” And if you like what you see you better act quick, often pieces sell out within minutes of a post going live, which is why their online shop and shipping internationally really took their business to the next level.Though Toronto has been very good to them and they love the city, both could still see themselves living outside of Toronto and operating the shop remotely. As Vava puts it, “I could fall in love with an intelligent, charming, handsome man and move to Italy tomorrow! We talk about this all the time. When Ang was single, I would say my man would need a single brother so she can come and we would be neighbours! We have no plans to be locked down anywhere. I have such a free spirit, the wind can take me anywhere really. As long as it’s hot and sunny and I can feel sand under my feet!” Follow the girls on Instagram and Twitter @thestoreonqueen Visit the store at: 662 Queen St. W., Toronto, ON.
