As my sister makes the transition to college life, she has handed over the reins to TwoAndFro.co, to me. I am excited for her and for the company that we have built together. I look forward to seeing my sister excel in her chosen field and to TwoAndFro.co becoming a respected, international brand.
Our parents have always been our biggest fans. When we brought our concerns to them, it was met with a trifold plan of attack/action. This consisted of prayer, enrollment in martial arts, and the start of a brand that reflected the beauty of black girls everywhere. Today, we are both confident and comfortable in the skin we’re in and in the beauty of our coiled, textured hair.
Growing up as a dark-skinned girl has had its unpleasantries. Images in the media and in fashion did not associate beauty and positivity with people of my skin tone. Neither did it associate beauty with textured hair. My sister and I were both ridiculed in school due to our hair texture but I was ridiculed because of both my skin tone and my hair texture. To say that this negatively impacted our sense of self-esteem would be an understatement.
