Kids, mostly girls need to collect water everyday
• This leaves them with less time and energy to go to school consequently:
• → no education, never get out of poverty
• The weight of the water container can cause damage to the head, neck and spine
• Kids are most vulnerable to the diseases that result from dirty water and poor sanitation
• A lack of water also means that children cannot wash often enough and, as a result, suffer from dieseases like scabies and eye infections
Statistics
1.Around 500,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation - that's over 1,400 children a day.
2.Diarrhoea is the third biggest killer of children under five years old in Sub-Saharan Africa.
3.Diarrhoea is the second biggest killer of children under five years old worldwide.
4.Every year, around 60 million children are born into homes without access to sanitation.
5.Lack of water, sanitation and hygiene costs Sub-Saharan African countries more in lost GDP than the entire continent gets in development aid.
