Jacob Goss age #
BRAIN TUMOR
Last spring, Jacob was getting ill after his
baseball games. The pediatrician attributed it to
the heat and dehydration, but as months passed
and Jacob continued getting sick both morning
and night, repeat visits to his pediatrician and other specialists resulted in more
tests but no answers. One day in November, Jacob got ill at school, began
walking funny, and became cross eyed. Jacob’s mother took him immediately to
Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital Emergency Department where Jacob
received a CAT scan. The results came back and were devastating. Jacob was
diagnosed with a brain tumor, and within days underwent major brain surgery
to remove the tumor and determine the type of cancer. He received six weeks of
daily radiation treatments, followed by six months of chemotherapy.
It was hard for Jacob to be away from his family, his cat Daisy, and his
classmates. Jacob found comfort and peace in building Lego’s and creating
artwork. After three brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, Jacob is
thrilled to be finished with treatment. He started second grade this year and is
looking forward to just being a regular kid! Jacob’s mom calls him her Superhero!
For the next several years, Jacob will be followed closely to monitor for any
signs that the cancer has returned. After five years, Jacob will transition to the
survivor’s clinic for support for the rest of his life.
