How can you help across the school?
The most successful way to build mentally healthy schools is to implement a whole-school approach. This means involving everyone from the senior leadership team, through to parents, staff and pupils as well as local services. This approach can be see using a whole school policy, mental health and wellbeing curriculum planning, assemblies, and within the schools attitudes and ethos.
Schools should work alongside pupils to create whole-school or year group assemblies to share the importance of looking after our mental health and well-being. This will ensure that the students feel heard and that the whole school is able to come together to support each other.
Making sure that the well-being and mental health of you colleagues is also a priority, having wellbeing and mental health staff meetings will be beneficial to your school as a whole. Additionally, making sure that staff are receiving regular training updates on mental health and wellbeing will ensure that they are confident and comfortable teaching the pupils about the topics.
