4. The Way to Calvary
This is when Mary sees Jesus with his blood-stained face and clothes, stumbling under the
weight of the cross, and hears the jeers against him.
This can be found in John 19:1 Luke 23:26-32
5. The Crucifixion
Simeon said that a sword would pierce her heart, and it did indeed. Seeing her son hanging
there, she shared in his suffering.
This can be found in Mark 15:22/15:34, John 19:18/25-27, Luke 23:46
6. The Descent from the Cross
It is over. Dark clouds have appeared in the sky and upon the world. Jesus is dead. Joseph
of Arimathea and Nicodemus take down the Body from the Cross, and Mary receives It
in her arms. She is filled with a sadness that no human heart has known. This is her Son.
Once she had cradled Him in her arms, listened to His voice, and watched Him working at
the carpenter’s bench. Now He is dead. She does not weep; her grief is too great for tears.
This can be found in John 19:31-34/19:38
7. The Burial of Jesus
Hastily, the Body is wrapped in a clean linen cloth. Nicodemus has brought myrrh and aloes,
and the Body is bound in the Shroud with them. Nearby is a new tomb, belonging to Joseph
of Arimathea, and there they lay Jesus. Mary and John and the holy women follow them
and watch as the great stone to the sepulchre is rolled. It is the end.
This can be found in Matthew 27:59; John 19:38-42; Mark 15:46; Luke 27:55-56.

Sunday Reflections: Sep 2
1st Reading: Read Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8
The following reflections are to aid you in your spiritual life
based on this Sunday’s First Reading. Think of your life and
answer truthfully.
1. Do you obey the statues and decrees our Lord has given
us? If not, which laws do you need to follow more often?
What makes it difficult for you to obey them?
2. Do you follow all of the Ten Commandments? If not, which
of them are you having trouble with? What will you try to do
the next time?
