• Book: Preparing for Birth pages 17 – 32, 74 – 75.
• PowerPoint presentation: Preparing for Birth slides 42 – 74.
• Visual aids: Cesarean Birth poster, samples of tools( monitor sensors, Doppler, etc.), demo doll / pelvis model, etc.
• Corresponding activities and handouts from Appendices B and C.
• White board, dry erase markers and eraser.
• Pens or pencils.
Introduction and value of the section
Various tools, technologies and medications are a common part of many labor and birth experiences. Understanding why these are used, what is involved and the advantages and disadvantages will help parents prepare for their experience and empower them to be an active part of decision-making.
