Child Protection
Peruvian children
Protecting children from abuse and exploitation is an issue for every country
in the world. Every day, children are unnecessarily and cruelly subjected to
abuse and experience sexual, physical and psychological harm. Many factors
increase a child’s risk to exploitation, including disability, being orphaned,
homeless or abandoned. Emergency and disaster situations also increase a
child’s risk for abuse.
Children who are subjected to abuse and exploitation experience a greater probability of long-
term effects, including mental health issues, poor educational outcomes, drug abuse and an
increased chance of criminal activity. At its most basic, child abuse undermines a child’s right to
grow up safely and happily
