How important is Photoshop in your final images ? I would say as important as my camera itself . Not that I ’ m using it to create unreal or
fantasy images , as this is not really what I ’ m looking for . But shooting exclusively RAW files with my camera , I have no other choice than to ‘ develop ’ my ‘ digital negatives ’ and to do so , my software of choice always has been Photoshop . I ’ m using first the RAW converter to adjust exposure , colors , and tonality levels . Then the image is opened in Photoshop where I may clean or remove unwanted little details , such as some drink can trashed near the river that I did not notice while capturing the scenery . When shooting portraits with the incredible sharpness of modern photographic lenses , you may also notice some small skin imperfections in the final image . Sometimes these little imperfections are even more visible than in real life . Without going to the extreme of what we call a ‘ Plastic Skin ’ effect , by completely removing textures and expressions , I still like to help the model look as best as possible . I do believe this is part of my work , too , and removing a tiny pimple or unflattering reddish mark on the skin helps the model feel more confident , as well as gives both of us the best final image result .
What inspires you ? Everything ! Well , almost everything ! As a visual artist , I ’ m very sensitive about everything I see in my surroundings . When shooting landscapes , still life or macro photography , it is mostly all about lighting and angle of view . These two components are the ones you can use to create a beautiful image . What I love the most in these photography styles is to be able to show the beauty of ordinary things that people forget to even notice in their daily life . Shooting landscapes is also enjoying , for several hours , peaceful and isolated locations where you are fully connected with nature . When shooting people , that ’ s a totally different story . I have learned that having the most beautiful model in front of your camera doesn ’ t necessarily give you the most beautiful image . Here again , lighting
