Over the years, smart phones have ushered a digital era where almost
everything is possible with a few taps and swipes. However one creative
task remains that needs the assistance of a desktop or a laptop- video
editing. With the limitations of storage and the need for touch control
over the user interface, phone editing apps seems badly equipped
for anything but home videos. But the developers strive to push the
boundaries for what’s possible.
Adobe Premiere Clip provides two types of editing- automatic and
freeform. In the former, the user simply has to choose a music track
and set the pace. The app’s algorithms take over the complete creative
process and automatically cuts, splices, adds music, effects and
transitions to the video. The freeform, where the user is in complete
control, is much better in comparison to the automatic editing.
Automatic editing is only useful where precision in editing is not
required. Otherwise it’s better to stick with freeform and not have your
clips butchered. One of the major limitations of this app is that the
output is limited to 720p or 1080p (not 4K).
The filters and lighting effects like highlights, shadow and exposure
promise and fail to enhance the video’s visual mood so much so that
after inserting the filters you would wish to heavily edit contrast and
saturation. There is also the option of adding soundtracks that you
can choose from the stocked soundtracks or put in your own music.
Some other features are transitions and slow motion, but on the flip
side we cannot speed up the clip, it lacks a choice of transitions and
video rotation which is a downer. Another good element is that the
user can adjust the volumes of the video or the soundtrack.
Adobe’s Premiere Clip is another one of Adobe’s venture to bring video
editing into the ever shrinking screens of our mobile phones. It is a
free video editing mobile app used to make and edit videos that can
be polished in the desktop version, i.e., Adobe Premium Pro CC. It
is a free app but you have to sign in to your creative cloud account
before starting. Even though editing in such a small screen is neither
ideal nor recommended but the app provides a short term solution for
importing, rearranging and trimming clips and then adding music,
effects and transitions to the video. The app leaves out the complicated
menus, and tricky settings and overwhelming number of options from
the Adobe Premium Pro CC for Mac and PC, giving way to simple and
easy to use video editing tools.
The Adobe Premiere Clip comes with the additional feature of photo
motion, i.e., it can add visual interest to still images by inserting a subtle
zoom in or zoom out. The videos can easily be shared on Twitter or
Youtube (Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat are oddly missing here),
saved on Creative Cloud and can also be sent to Adobe Premiere Pro
CC for finer editing.
CHIIZ OPINION: Adobe Premiere Clip is a free, quick and easy to
use video editing app that provides the basic video editing tools. It is
best for rough editing or for Adobe Premium Pro CC users who can
occasionally save video ideas when they are out. Although it is efficient
and easy to use, there are better apps like iMovie for Apple users that
top Adobe Premiere Clip in significant ways.
