taking the throne.”
Students and faculty have many
opinions on what made Sackman such
a prominent figure at Rice.
“Ms. Sackman’s greatest quality
was her ability to influence her
students to take pride in all of their
art,” said Sophomore Hunter Polonkey.
“Whether it was the picture you
took, the drawing you drew or even
the clothes you wore, she taught us to
conquer success by putting our hearts
in touch with our creativity.”
Many recall that she welcomed
them to school each day with a great
big smile and a “hello.”
“She was always very friendly and
welcomed me as a new teacher,”
said Spanish teacher and classroom

WELCOME
Continued from Page 1
Don’t treat this year as a pushover,
treat it as a break. You aren’t adjusting
to a new environment, as you were
Freshman year, and you’re not stressing
about college
and grades the
way you will
Junior year. But
make sure to
take this year
seriously.
-Teddy Dunn,
Junior
To the
Freshman
Personally,
Freshman
year was my
favorite, most
memorable school year of my life. Making
new friends and creating relationships
with my fellow classmates is very
important and is what made my Freshman
year so exciting.
Mrs. Stropoli, Art
Which staff member

Mrs. Hoyt

I was born on the same day Helen
Keller died.

A piece of advice I would give is to
get on top of your work early. Don’t fall
behind early. It may not seem like it, but
Freshman year is one of the most important
years of high school. Start strong
and maintain a healthy GPA.
If you can remember this one rule,
you’ll do fine: If
Sister Marie is
happy, everyone
is happy.
Don’t stress
yourself out, but
make sure school
is still your No.
1 priority. Doing
your homework
is absolutely
pivotal, since it
will establish a
precedent for how
you should treat
your schoolwork.
Homework will pile up as the year goes
along, so staying on top of it will condition
you for what is to come.
