A New Guide for the Holidays
At Halloween, it became clear that fi rst-
year teacher Mr. Kovel has some strong
opinions about our holidays.
As he spewed venom about costumes and
trick-or-treating, it occurred to the Chief-
tain that he might have some thoughts
about other holidays, as well.
And he does.
Welcome, then, to “Kovel’s Korner,”
a new feature, where Mr. Kovel comments
on the next holiday.
We know you hate Halloween. So
what are your thoughts on Thanksgiv-
ing?
Thanksgiving is by far the best holiday
because of all the warm feelings. You
get to spend the day watching football,
and you don’t have to buy any gifts.
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving
food?
Deep-fried turkey.
What’s your
favorite
Thanksgiving
dessert?
Pumpkin pie
with whipped
cream and
caramel.
KOVEL’s
Do you have
any Thanksgiv-
ing traditions
you follow?
Deep frying turkey and drinking tea
with my dad.
KORNER
Do you and your family have a big
celebration for Thanksgiving?
We used to have a big family gather-
ing, but now my dad kind of adopts
people into the family dinners. So now
we have my dad’s friends coming
over.
Are you going to watch the Lions-
Bears game?
Yes. If Stafford is playing, it’ll be 24-21
Lions. If Stafford isn’t playing, 14-10
Bears.
Who did you take in the Logan Paul
vs KSI fi ght?
I don’t care about that at all. Not one
bit.

What to Watch
Check out these Thanksgivng movies over your break
By Joey Farrar
Chieftain Staff
Thanksgiving is a time of happiness
and joy, but let’s be honest: The fi ve-day
break can get boring at times.
So the Chieftain
has prepared the
best Thanksgiv-
ing movies for
you to watch
while on break.
“A Char-
lie Brown
Thanksgiv-
ing,” 1973
When you
think of Thanks-
giving movies,
“Charlie Brown”
should be the
fi rst movie that
comes to mind. It
follows Charles
M. Schultz’s clas-
sic Peanut char-
acters, as Charlie Brown and Snoopy
try to throw a Thanksgiving dinner for
all of their friends. I would strongly
suggest watching this classic movie for
B R OTHE R R IC E H IG H S C H O O L C H I E F TA I N
Thanksgiving because nothing gets you
in the holiday spirit more than seeing
Snoopy dressing up as a Pilgrim or
watching Charlie Brown trying to kick
a football.

“Paul Blart: Mall
Cop,” 2009
This movie, which
fi ttingly takes place
during Black Friday,
is just too funny to
keep off this list.
“Mall Cop” is about a
mall security guard,
Paul Blart (the hi-
larious Kevin James),
who takes his job
very seriously. When
disaster hits, he is
tasked with protect-
ing his mall from a
group of new-age
robbers. Make sure
to check this out over
Thanksgiving break on Netfl ix. It’s
Kevin James as a mall cop – what could
be better?

P AGE 4
“Planes,
Trains, and
Automobiles,”
1987
This funny and
lovable Thanks-
giving movie stars
classic comedians
Steve Martin and
John Candy. This
is a must-watch
for your Thanksgiving break, and I
promise that you’ll be laughing the full
hour and a half.

“Jack and Jill,” 2011
You should watch this not because of
how good it is, but because of how bad
it is. I might not be overstating things
when I call this the worst movie ever.
It got a 3 percent on Rotten Tomatoes!
It stars Adam Sandler as both Jack and
Jack’s sister, Jill, during Thanksgiving.
Even though the movie stinks, I would
actually suggest the movie for the Holi-
days so that you can be scarred by this
movie like I was.
