As I write this we are about to have our last
Open Day this year and the Beer and Jazz
Festival. On the day we had nine real ales
and four groups entertaining us.
I came across “Good Ordinary Bitter” at the
Storrington Classic Car Show a few weeks
ago. It is brewed in Pulborough and we had
it on that weekend. I hope you have
enjoyed it as much as I have.
Bar manager Maddie has been the driver
behind the Beer and Jazz and most of our
other events in the recent past. However
this was her last event as she left us at the
end of August.
I am sure you join with me in wishing her
the best for the future, she will be missed.
I am pleased to say the General
Committee has agreed to keep the club
open seven days a week through the
winter. Memberships have been growing
very well, we are very close to 900 and
may be over that by the time you read this.
It is so encouraging to see members new
and old really enjoying the club. We all
want to keep the club open as much as
possible within financial constraints.
We have also agreed to move winter
opening in line with the change from BST
to UTC. This is the 3rd weekend in
October. We will announce our actual
opening times for each day soon once we
have agreed the kitchen hours.
You will have received a letter from me
about the AGM on 29th October; I look
forward to seeing as many of you as
possible there on the day.
I plan to keep the actual AGM as short as
possible as we are reviewing what
happened in 2016, which seems a while
ago.
The more important part of the afternoon,
in my view, will be the review of 2017 and
plans for 2018. It would also be good to
have some new members on GC, please
consider putting yourself forward. The Club
is an interesting organisation to run and it
doesn’t run itself!
I would like to remind you that the Club is
running a Macmillan Coffee Morning again
on 29th September from 10am until noon.
Please come and support this very
worthwhile national charity. Last year £800
was raised at the Club, let’s try to make it
£1,000 this year.
The weather has been remaining warm so
I hope you are enjoying your on-water
activities this month as well.
