Around the Club Rear Commodore House Joe Baker Latest results show a good improvement in Bar and Restaurant results compared with last year and undoubtedly our Function income has been a great help in boosting the Bar and Restaurant figures. Restaurant and Bar Activities There are exciting times ahead for the operation of the bar and restaurant. Manuèle Jenkin (“Manu”) has excellent ideas for improving the Club bar area. The weather has been kind so far this summer and one or more cruises have gone ahead most weekends, including a Motor Section cruise to the Channel Islands. In fact, it’s been such a good summer that RC Motors was spotted bathing in Newtown Creek one sunny day! Shepherd Neame will be advising on how we can make the bar more welcoming and comfortable while retaining the friendly, informal aspect of the area. Our winter menu will be introduced this month with striking new covers. The Specials board meals will be reduced in number so look out for your staple choices which will all be included in future in the table menu. This move is expected to reduce congestion at the serving hatch. Please be patient while the improved selection arrangement kicks in. There is much to entertain our members in October: On the first weekend of the month the YS organised a cruise to Bucklers Hard while Motors were making their way to Gosport. In addition to cruises and dinghy racing, we have a fascinating Winter Lecture by Mark Bray, Southampton Pilot, at 10:30 on Sunday 16th. On 29th we have the Laying Up Supper followed by the Club AGM on Sunday. With the close of the season and reduced activity on the water, the restaurant will be busy at the weekends so do get in early. Social Calendar 2017 The social programme for 2017 is in planning stage now, email [email protected] with your suggestions for inclusion in next year’s list of events. 3
