I am writing this month’s From the Helm shortly after this year’s Annual General Meeting which was attended by a large number of members. So firstly, I would like to say thank you all for attending the meeting and your support in re-electing me as your Commodore for the next year. I feel really honoured and privileged to be continuing in the role at an exciting time for the Club. At the AGM, I provided an update on the Club’s three-year strategic business plan. which showed the Club is currently in a good position with growing membership supported by a strong underlying commercial operation. Next year we will be starting our next three-year strategy. In future articles I shall be talking further about the strategy and keep you informed of our progress. Congratulations At the AGM we awarded Club trophies to the following members:. • The Cruiser Cup to Amanda Pearce for her editorial support in producing our monthly Club Magazine. • The Woodham’s Wheel to Andy Skynner for his leadership and contribution to the weekly winter maintenance team. • The Endeavour Trophy to Philip Brown for his leadership of, and contribution to, the successful delivery of the Club’s GDPR project and our recent governance review. Congratulations to all three. I hope to see you at the Club soon. November 24th Winter Lecture: Cotentin or Circumnavigation, which is tougher? Aside from on the wallet, of course; in many respects it is much closer than you think. Reflecting on three years of circumnavigating with his parents. Richard will make some practical points about long distance sailing beyond Western Europe as well as some anecdotes about what living in close proximity for such a period entails. A lighthearted discussion that will hopefully banish those autumnal blues as the nights draw in. A talk by Richard Gribbin 3
