Helen Jupp, Rear Commodore Yachts Looking Back 2019 This past year as your Rear Commodore has been a challenge for me trying to get to grips with new technol- ogy, especially when we have been away in the summer cruising on Dawn Chorus. We really enjoyed joining in many of the local cruises and the camaraderie that you find when cruising in company with CYC. We had good weather for our cruise along the Normandy coast, together with 11 other CYC yachts, and explored inland up the canal to Caen, just after the 75 th D-day commemorations. We were made most welcome by Fecamp Yacht Club and the marinas. For some yachts and crews it was their first time crossing the Channel which they did with a buddy, so now they are that much more confident for the future. Apart from the large programme of cruises, we had an excellent series of fun races which attracted a record number of entrants. During this winter we launched a series of discussion groups led by club members sharing expertise in an informal manner. Our social activities have been popular, particularly the Second Friday sailors’ suppers which run regularly throughout the year. We were sorry that some of our sailing friends have sold their yachts but do hope we will still see them at the club. But others have changed to a motor boat, decided it is not for them and have returned to the sailing fraternity. We have welcomed a number of new members to the section this year and we look forward to seeing them on our cruises in 2020. Looking forward to 2020 The Club programme has been sent out nice and early. More details of the Yacht Sec- tion cruises, races and social events are on the website, under Yacht Documents. We loaded the cruise descriptions onto the website over the Christmas holidays with book- ing open in early January. An excellent programme of Sunday morning lectures has been arranged and I am very pleased that we now have a new projector so the pictures are of a much better quality. Monthly walks are organised by our members but they prove very popular so it’s advis- able to get your name down early by booking on the website. The Yachtie Ladies will be meeting a few times before the sailing season and will include a tailor-made day on basic navigation by a well-known nautical author.
