Club General Manager Manu Jenkin The CYC team joins me in wishing you all a very happy New Year. May it bring you and your families health, happiness and many hours on or by the water. The 2020 programme booklets were sent last month so you should all have a copy: why don’t you look through and make a note of the key events you would like to take part in, be it sailing dates such as open events, cruises, racing or social events such as Burns Night, movie nights, club socials… 2019 was a busy year and 2020 promises to be no different. We have extended the Dinghy training programme with first dates in January and last dates in December. Winter sailing can be fantastic but appropriate clothing is essential, something you won’t need to worry about if you attend the group dis- cussions; the first one scheduled on January 24 th will be about night sailing and venturing further afield. We have studied our members’ visiting patterns and adapted our opening hours accordingly. Summer and Winter hours have been replaced by Low season and Peak season. The low season has been extended from January 1 st to April 30 th and from October 1 st. During the low season, the restaurant and bar last orders are respectively 7pm and 8pm from Sunday to Tuesday, 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 9pm and 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Our peak season hours, running from May 1 st to 30 th September, are unchanged. We have also listened to your feedback and included lighter bites in the evening so do come and visit us. Our new menu will be out early this month; we hope you like it and as always please let us know what else you would like to see included. In 2020, we have three new member receptions, in April, June and October, as well as a “new members’ table” at most of our social events to ensure any new members are warmly and quickly integrated into our friendly Club. Initiatives such as the buddy system or What’sApp group are great tools too. The best way to keep informed of all that is happening in the club is by ensuring you are subscribed to our Onboard newsletter, carefully prepared each week by Carolyn and Lucy, as well as the section e-newsletters, Over the Yardarm (Yacht), Flag it Up (Dinghy) and Power up (Motor) . All new members are automatically subscribed to them but check your spam folder if these emails don’t make their way to you. You can also subscribe to them by visiting the website. You will find the link to subscribe under the information tab. Have your details changed? Don’t forget to let us know if any of your details have changed so we can update our records. Please note that any changes made to the website won’t filter back to us; you will still need to pass them onto us. Don’t forget that the Club is now, mostly, cashless. We are still accepting cash in the office until March but the bar and restaurant are only taking debit cards. Sloop transactions will continue to use cash, at least until a suitable technical solution can be introduced. 2020 marks the start of the new 3-year strategy for the Club, prepared by your General Committee. You will find information about it in the Club and we are also on hand to answer your queries. So please don’t hesitate to ask. 4
