Firstly, I wish every one of you a very Happy New Year and a successful 2020. By the time you are reading this article, we will have had our New Year’s Eve Party. This again was a great success. We were booked up by mid-October. The success of this popular event is due to the hard work of our staff, so a special thank-you to them all. I am really excited about the year ahead. You will have received our 2020 programme which shows all our full list of activities both on and off the water. Remember, for more up-to-date information on Club events keep in contact either via our website or through our weekly On-Board newsletter. 2020 marks the beginning of the Club’s new three-year strategy which is aimed at ensuring the Club provides both a positive and safe environment for our members and to ensure it is more resilient to future challenges. In addition, we have produced a Management Plan which shows how the strategy will be delivered. I will be talking more about our various themes within our strategy over the next few months. In 2020 we are also continuing to invest in our clubhouse facilities and our Waterfront Development Programme. This represents a multi-year plan to improve our waterfront facilities. After several years planning, the programme started last year with new dinghy racks and implementing some anti-erosion measures on our shoreline. This year we embark on the first phase of replacing our ancient pontoons. Chris Hodge has written a more detailed description of our exciting Waterfront Programme on Pages 6 and 7 of this month’s magazine. More information on the Club’s Strategy and the Waterfront Programme can be found at the Club and on the website. It is with sadness that I must inform you of the death of June Hughes in December, after a long illness. June and her husband Peter have been members of the Club for more than forty years. June sailed with Peter in their early years at CYC and were active members until a few years ago. June will be remembered by her many friends for her talent in sculpture and other activities, including yoga, swimming, walking and cycling. We all send our condolences to Peter, Sarah and Gerard. Finally, you should all have received your letter for your 2020 subscription payments. If you are not paying by Direct Debit then remember if you pay before 15th January, you will be entitled to an Early-Bird discount. Please contact the Office to claim your discount. I hope to see you at the Club soon. Happy sailing. 3
