The CYC Cruising Anthem is about to hit the charts!
The CYC cruise leaders’ dinner is always a great event and this year’s saw the release of Steve Martin’s (no not that
one) epic sea shanty anthem for those intrepid sailors who dare leave the harbour on a cruise. Below are lyrics, and
hopefully soon you’ll be able to listen to a rendition by the writer himself via the club website!
So let’s hear you singing it loud and proud!
CYC CRUISING ANTHEM
Lyrics by Steve Martin
Sing to the tune of “The Holy Ground”
Sailing on club cruises with the wind fair on the beam
We join the finest band of ships Britannia’s ever seen
We will sail the Solent deep and wide and brave seas smooth and hi-igh
And when we reach our harbour safe we'll drink all taverns dry
(Shout) FINE CLUB WE ARE
We cruise from shore to sho-ore
And still we live in hope to cross
The Chichester bar once more
(Shout) FINE CLUB WE ARE
Our favourite haunt is Newtown the creek so full of charm
With buoyage and safe anchoring our ships won't come to harm
We love this harbour very much but sadly here's the ru-ub
The tides and water depths are such you can't always make the pub
(Shout) FINE CLUB WE ARE
We cruise from shore to sho-ore
And still we live in hope to cross
The Chichester bar once more
(Shout) FINE CLUB WE ARE
And when our journey is over and we must return to home
No matter what the weather brings rain or roaring foam
We sail our sturdy vessels and bring them safe to sh-ore
And if we have too rough a trip we'll put to sea no more
(Shout) FINE CLUB WE ARE
We cruise from shore to sho-ore
And still we live in hope to cross
The Chichester bar once more
(Shout) FINE CLUB WE ARE
