Agreed to meet on four occasions in 2020 given that the bulk of the work previously undertaken at GC will
now be devolved to the Board and Member Services Sub-Committees. GC meetings will tie in with important
strategic decision dates.
Congratulated Vice Commodore Johnny Johnston on his appointment as Chair of the RYA Southern Region.
Three RYA workshops will be held in the area between January and March 2020.
Concern was expressed over a data security issue within the Motor Section app which has now been
withdrawn and a report is awaited.
Welcomed a communications plan for significant Club issues which will embrace pop-up banners and video
presentations in the clubhouse lobby as well as articles in the magazine, information on the website and project
leader presentations. The forthcoming issues to be covered are the Waterfront Project and the new Strategic
Management Plan.
The 2020 Club budget was agreed and also to seek a new Club banker due to our current bank proving
unhelpful in certain respects.
Discussed the draft Strategic Management Plan and agreed to ask the section committees to consider it and
make suggestions for amendments or additions.
It is expected that the new Member Services Sub-Committee, which will be chaired by Simon Benson, will be
composed of the section membership secretaries and representatives of the management staff. All committee
and sub-committee meetings will be open to observers in the hope of getting more members involved.
We have 1,060 memberships and it was agreed to try to maintain these in the band 1,050 to 1,150, coupled
with monitoring the impact on members’ enjoyment of our facilities.
The Committee welcomed the decision by Motors and Yachts to hold short meetings at the monthly Friday
night section socials. This should help new members to meet their fellow section members given that these
evenings can seem a little intimidating.
Discussed the possibility of committee (General and Section) members having Club email addresses. There is
a cost implication and no decision was reached at this stage.
It was agreed to ensure that our health and safety consultant covers all aspects of volunteering, including cruise
leading, in a report expected soon.
Welcomed the news that external events are likely to exceed targets for both income and profit in 2019 and
that bookings for 2020 are looking very good as well.
The 2020 Club Programme has been published and will be sent to members with their renewal notices.
Discussed the availability of Club policies and welcomed the proposed guidelines on the use of WhatsApp
group social media.
Tipping policy in a cashless scenario was debated; it was agreed to maintain the current arrangements and that
members should be pre-warned of tipping events.
Phase 1 of the Waterfront Project will commence in 2020 but we are still in the process of agreeing the final
contract conditions.
To show the Committee’s appreciation of our staff, it was agreed to fully fund their post-Christmas party.
The next General Committee meeting will be on Saturday 22 February 2020 at 10:00.
