Commodore Tony Mobbs Earlier this month, I hosted a dinner for our past commodores. This year the dinner was attended by commodores representing the last 40 years of the Club. it was good to catch up with some old friends and hear their stories about the Club during their time as commodore. They were pleased to hear how well we are doing against our 3 year strategic business plan and how the Club is performing now. But of course the success of the Club today is down, in part, to each and everyone of the Past Commodores and their committees. Club Socials Our various social activities throughout the winter months are proving to be very successful, with our Burn’s Night and the Murder Mystery dinners both being sell-out events. The Quiz Nights are very popular with our informal and friendly competitive environment and the Winter Lecture series continue to be well attended. With the success of our main events, in the future the General Committee has decided to limit the number of guests to two per member (that’s 4 guests for a Family Membership), so the maximum number of members can enjoy the event. But hopefully there is still plenty of opportunities to keep you occupied during the winter months. Summer Activities Our thoughts are now moving towards the summer and the programme of events for this year. Do check the programme and the website for the events coming up. We are continuously looking for new water-based opportunities to appeal to our members. I would like to make you aware of some new water activities this summer. Chris Lane is planning a series of cruises to enable more members to sail together closer to home. The cruise will comprise of a single day sail and will explore the beautiful waters around Chichester Harbour. The cruises will be both weekends and mid-week depending on the tides. Keep an eye out for our On- Board weekly newsletter and website for more details or contact Chris Lane via email [email protected] if you are interested (boat optional). Canoeing and Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (“SUPPing”) are increasing in popularity amongst all age groups. We have been working in close relationship with the Chichester Canoe Club for a number of years and this year we are offering either introductory evenings to learn to canoe or opportunities to join the Canoe Club for an evening paddling in the harbour. The Canoe Club meets at the Club most Friday evenings throughout the summer months. 2
