Cleaning with Vinegar
By Susie Burall
To clean teak decks use one part
distilled vinegar to three parts
water. Mix well and use a garden
spray to spritz the deck. This should
remove all the green – also good for
teak garden furniture! Eat fish and
chips while applying!
To clear sink blockages, pour 50g of
baking soda (or bicarbonate of soda) and 150ml of distilled vinegar down the drain. Be aware there is a fizzing
chemical reaction. Follow with a bucket of hot water.
To clear limescale around taps, kettles (rinse well after), shower heads, and to clean chrome use a small quantity of
undiluted distilled vinegar.
There is a very good book on Amazon – 1001 Practical Uses of Vinegar by Margaret Briggs.
COMPETITION
Sailors, of necessity, tend to be self sufficient and great innovators; after all if you have a
problem mid-Channel you can’t just pull over and call the AA! A humble four-pint
plastic milk container can be adapted and put to many uses on a boat so let’s have your
ideas and see how many we can come up with.
Send your entries to [email protected] to arrive no later than December 31 st .
A bottle of wine will be won for the most original use and the winner and the details
will be published in the February magazine.
