2020 started like any normal year: in early to count the bar stock on New
Year’s Day for the end of year accounts. This is always a challenge as we
usually shut the Club around five hours earlier after the New Year’s Eve
Party. Roll on nearly three months later and that challenge seems like a
breeze.
I started the year as a Hospitality Manager with a family and I now occupy
the following positions:
Hospitality Manager, Primary School teacher, Secondary School Teacher,
Gardener and Puppy Trainer….
In the past 21 days we hosted our first wedding of the year, we can now
sing Happy Birthday twice in a row (backwards and in several languages),
we started a takeaway service that with less than 48 hours’ notice served
around 100 meals on Mother’s Day and then today, I am now working
from home, rationing toilet rolls and when shopping for essentials, being
sceptical of anyone invading my two-metre space.
My desk has now taken over Hannah’s play area and quite often I do
have to share my office space and I am sure Manu or Lucy will soon get a
random phone call as Hannah is very interested that we now have a
landline phone!
My time lately has been rearranging weddings and events that are booked
over the coming months, although a wedding couple that I showed
around earlier in the year have paid a deposit and confirmed their wed-
ding booking with the Club. I am working my way through an extensive
list of ‘tomorrow’s jobs today!’ This includes marketing, menu reviews,
system updates, procedure/training refreshing and making my day-day
working more efficient when we return. I will be at the Club on occasions
to check all is ok and will be cutting the grass when needed.
I love being at home seeing Jenny and the children every day, being in the
hospitality trade that is not always possible. Having said that, I miss the
socialising, the pace of the business, and I look forward to the challenge of
reopening and getting back to normal.
From Hannah, Michael, Jenny, Luna (the pup) and myself, I hope we will
see you all very soon. I have a Club phone at home (option number 4)
and if I can be of help with anything I will try to do so.
Stay Safe.
