My vantage point is from a rather different crow’s nest as I am now working from home, along with millions of workers, relying more than ever on technology and a strong internet connection, and thankful to our ICT partners who helped us make the transition. These last few weeks have been very difficult indeed as we tried to come to terms with a rapidly evolving situation, quickly rendering obsolete newly made plans such as starting to offer takeaways when the Club was forced to close its doors to our members. It was such a joy to be able to serve over 100 meals on Mother’s Day thanks to all the staff who pulled out all the stops to deliver a perfect service, from the taking of orders to the delivering, respecting all the social distancing government guidelines along the way. Lucy made a quick impromptu video to show the setup. You can see it by clicking the link here https://youtu.be/jryjy6mobsA We hope to start this initiative again as soon as the lockdown is eased. It has also been a time of worry about our families and friends, our members, our staff and our Club. It has therefore been heart-warming to receive so much support from so many of you. We will come out on the other side, hopefully stronger, wiser, more appreciative of things normally taken for granted and ready to celebrate. Even if we don’t know when that will be, you can start thinking about ideas and send your suggestions to [email protected] Physical and mental wellness is of crucial importance now more than ever. To help you nurture both, we have started sharing regular information throughout the lockdown on how you can best look after you and your loved ones. We are sending links, practical tips and will be keeping in touch mostly via email, the website and occasionally telephone so please do ensure we have your up-to-date details. If you don’t receive our “On Board” now, your details may have been missed or you may have unsubscribed; let us know and we will remedy that. CYCDiscord is a virtual Club open to all 24/7, with multiple interest groups linked by a very simple messaging system. If you would like to join, potentially meet new members on line, start your own interest group or join an existing one, please contact [email protected] and we will help you. More details can also be found in the RC Dinghies article. Sections are also planning some virtual social events and will be advertising these separately. Keep well and keep in touch. 5
