Yacht Section

The Yacht Section has been keeping up spirits with lots of banter on WhatsApp – jokes, videos and chat. This was of
course not the original intention of the WhatsApp group but we live in difficult times and we all need a bit of
light hearted fun. So the Yacht Section WhatsApp has been renamed Yacht Section Chat for chat and banter. A new
WhatsApp group has been set up called “Yachting Matters” dealing with only matters relating to sailing. So those who
don’t want to be involved in the banter can sign up for this dedicated group. Contact Jerry at [email protected]
Last month we were hoping to run some day cruises in the harbour, open to all sections. But alas the Harbour Con-
servancy has stated this recreational activity is not in accordance with government guidelines, and indeed the marinas
have now closed.
The Yacht Section Committee has held a virtual meeting and has agreed the best way forward is to use Zoom. The first
virtual get together for members will be held on Thursday 9 April at 7.30pm when there will be a presentation on Cruis-
er Racing, as well as an update from the committee on our communications. We are hoping to run fortnightly Friday
evening discussions/lectures. We want to know how members are occupying themselves during the lockdown.
A monthly Photo Competition will be held, starting with the Rear Commodore’s Easter Fun. Photos should be posted
to the Yachts Yogile on the Club website.
The Yachtie Ladies group was due to have live sessions on VHF and navigation. As these have been postponed Judy
Walker hopes to arrange some online presentations.
New Members. We would like to give a special welcome all our new members who have joined this year and hope it
won’t be too long before we can get to know you personally at the bar or on the water.
Wishing you and your families a Happy Easter – and enjoy the Easter Eggs!
