Another example is the book club. One of our
members has kindly taken a lead, as shown here:
interested members enter the chat room, get the
details and start reading. Later, the chat room can be
where members discuss and agree when and how to
hold the book club post-read discussion meeting. I
suspect that a video conference using Zoom, which
seems to be the dominant force for such things, will be
the chosen medium. Meaning people can provide their
own snacks and drinks and compare those in addition
to their opinions on the book itself.
The #isolation-wellbeing provides links and offers for
members to keep mentally and physically active.
#Chess club needs more participants. #Pet-pictures
provides a forum for doting pet owners, ie anyone
with a pet.
Really, the whole Club takes energy from its members.
CYCDiscord can be adapted to meet member needs
and suggestions, and there are plenty of volunteers
more than willing to help other members overcome
any technological hurdles they come across.
One thing I hear is that Discord may just be too
difficult for many members to join (too difficult, mark
you, not impossible), and that may be true. But if we’re
going to be stuck here for six months, it might be
worth giving it a try, or several, until you’re in and
chatting away like an old hand.
