Looking forward to summer fun and fried green tomatoes
School’ s out, let the summer fun begin! We are so excited about all the activities planned for this year’ s Tomato Festival set to happen here in Jacksonville in a few weeks. In this edition of Cherokee County Living we have included a calendar of events for both the festival and upcoming community events and we introduce you to fourth-generation farmer David Claiborne, the man behind the success of Jacksonville’ s Tomato Shed.
Thinking about all those ripe, juicy, homegrown tomatoes makes me hungry. Tomatoes are such a versatile summer food staple for southern family meals. For this edition, we talked Sadler’ s Chef Rob Gowin into sharing some of his tried and true tips on making the best fried green tomatoes. We have also included a few new green tomato recipes for you to try.
Beyond tomatoes and Tomato Fest, rodeo season has gotten off to a great start in Texas and Jacksonville’ s very own team roper Kaden Profili has gotten his year off to a great start. Sports writer Jay Neal caught
