AROUND TOWN
Many celebrations and events have taken place in Jacksonville since the beginning of this year. In January, residents honored Martin Luther King Jr. with a parade and special service that recognized the gains made for people of color since King’ s time, as well as areas where they continue to struggle for equality. Workers install the institution’ s sign as progress continues on the new Cherokee County Federal Credit Union. In February, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce recognized the city’ s businesses of the year and other awardees at its 100th awards banquet. Peoples Church hosted“ Night to Shine,” an event that allowed people living with disabilities a time to show up and show out. Kendall Scudder, seeking to become the next chair of the Texas Democrat Party, made a stop in Jacksonville. In early March, the Jacksonville Fire Department hosted a push-in ceremony, in which city council members took part, for its newest engine.
