top trainers hit new highs
Henderson's 1-2-3
Nicky Henderson reacted in delight after Peace And Co led home Top Notch and Hargam to give the trainer a 1-2-3 in the JCB Triumph Hurdle.
He said: "We know Michael Dickinson had five [in the 1983 Cheltenham Gold Cup], and Willie Mullins has monopolised this all week, so it's nice to do something totally ridiculous.".
It was Henderson's 53rd winner in total at The Festival.
Dodging Bullets delight
The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase was billed as a duel between past winners Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy but neither proved a match for improving Dodging Bullets ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies. Sire De Grugy finished fourth and Sprinter Sacre pulled up, giving trainer Paul Nicholls a fifth victory in the contest.
"Sam gave him a fantastic ride. He has settled into the job very nicely and done extremely well," said Nicholls.
"I thought Sam (Twiston-Davies) gave him a fantastic ride," said Nicholls.
Mullins sets new record
Killultagh Vic's pulsating triumph in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle by a head from Noble Endeavour was trainer Willie Mullins' eighth win of the 2015 Festival.
This is a new record of training wins at the meeting; Mullins has now overtaken Nicky Henderson's record of seven, set in 2012.
Commenting on his achievement of setting a new training record for The Festival, Mullins said: "We've brought over lots of horses, but it's so hard and so competitive here, it's unbelievable. [But] it's all working out now. It's fantastic."
Conygree's Gold Cup
Novice chaser Coneygree, on his fourth outing over fences, made all of the running in the feature race of The Festival 2015, the £550,000 Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup, and became the first novice to win since Captain Christy in 1974.
Nico de Boinville, the winning jockey, said: "It's the best feeling ever, unbelievable, I'm lost for words."
