People who have the Heron as totem animals are generally people who like to spend time by themselves. They don’t like lots of people around them and reminds me of the Hermit Tarot Card. Independency is the key word with the Heron. You don’t like to be told what to do and if you want to do something you’ll do it. You are also ‘flighty’ in nature - so you start one thing and decide it’s not for you so you go on to something else. You are the same with people. You are loyal to those that you are close to and make friendships to those that you know will stay loyal to you. The moment that you realise there is no loyalty or you have learnt the lesson required from them you will fly away from them. As well as being independent, people with the Heron also are very territorial and will defend themselves as well as the people that are close to you. You don’t waste time in defending yourself and others. Look at those long legs on the Heron which allows it to walk out into the deep depths of the water but able to remain balanced. The Heron reminds us that through all the emotional episodes we have in our life we will learn from them and come back more balanced for them. Having the Heron in our lives with these big long legs also shows us that you are able to see the bigger picture in situations - you can see both sides to the argument and by being so independent means that you will make up your own mind. Having the Heron come to you means that it is teaching you to learn to stand on your own own two feet. Call upon the Heron if you require strength to stand up to your convictions. If you feel as if you need to become independent the Heron is always there to help you. If you need to defend yourself or others around you the Heron will not be far away to aid you in defending your terriority. The Heron also teaches us to be patient, he will wait in complete stillness for the prey to swim past and in one fell swoop will pick it up. So if you think you need slowing down and a lesson in patience (which we all need!), The Heron is the ideal totem animal to call upon to help you.
