CHECK IT OUT

Hello Everyone

We are finally approaching the end of what has been a roller coaster year. Despite the challenges faced the library has continued with its services offering the students the opportunity to carry on with their reading this academic year. Here are some of the library highlights and successes.

Across the school we have been promoting reading throughout by our bi-monthly library newsletter and competitions, Book Buzz programme, library lessons for year 7 & year 8, paired reading sessions and much more...  Our “Browse, Borrow and Reserve” service was a big hit. When the library was not accessible to the students, the books were given to the students in the classroom and I am extremely pleased with the level of engagement shown by the pupils.

Students have been at the top of their reading even remotely. They have been taking the AR reader quizzes regularly from home and at school. Like everything else the World book Day celebrations were remote this year the students participated in various WBD activities with great enthusiasm.

We have had an excellent team of student Librarians who have been assisting in the smooth running of the library. This academic year we have enhanced our library collection tremendously and the update of our collection reflects our diverse, inclusive community at Haggerston.

Recently we took the reading interest survey and the data we collected was enlightening. 80% of the students love/like reading. There are student who have shown interest in E-books Therefore, in the near future we plan to make an easy access to e-books from the library catalogue. I would like to inform you that we have moved to Access –it our new library catalogue which is attractive, user friendly and I am sure will help a great deal to promote reading.

At Haggerston, we make sure that reading is at the core of what we do and we strongly recommend 20 minutes of reading at home every day.

As always our last issue of the newsletter is

packed with intersting information & summer

reading challenges.

Have a safe and happy summer!
