CHECK IT OUT
Feb - Mar 2021
We are very proud of our excellent teachers and we want you to get to know them
a bit better !
For this issue, we shine the
light on our Academic Skills, Student Leadership, EPQ lead
and Equalities/EnglishTeacher
Mr Daniel Rowe
1.How long have you been teaching at Haggerston & where else have you taught?
I think it is about 5 or maybe 6 years... the time has flown and I have loved every
minute! I have previously worked in a school in North London- in Enfield. The
Head teacher was an English teacher / Leader here many moons ago, as she is
retired now and she was very pleased to know that I was taking a promotion
and wanted to work here in Haggerston, as she loved the vibrancy of the area
and the ambition of the students- much like I do.
2. What are your roles in Haggerston?
My roles are student leadership (future leaders, head teacher’s ambassador, year 10 seniors, year 8 buddies, academic writing, epq teacher, equalities and lastly english teacher. (wow that’s a lot of roles!)
3. Why did you want to teach English, and particularly why at secondary school?
I had an absolutely inspirational English teacher, in my very small school in
Cornwall, he made us act out characters and we really enjoyed the GCSE study
of the poems and key Literature texts we studied with him. Also a good friend
of mine suggested that I teach Secondary too as I really love textual analysis
and symbolism in Literature studies. 'To Kill A Mockingbird' by Harper Lee was
one of our GCSE texts and I loved the symbolism and discussion of social justice
and discrimination in the deep south of America. Read this book if you loved 'Of
Mice and Men', as it is a must read and a good summer project... for any Year
group.
4. If you weren't a teacher what other career would you have pursued?
I would love to be an opera singer! I have had singing lessons since year 7. Also
