THAT OLD AND DUSTY VIOLIN AMIR KADAMANI Sixth Grade. Amir is a talented violinist, an instrument he plays since he was 8 years old. His favorite books are "Cien años de soledad" by Gabriel García Márquez, "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoievski and "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne. His favorite authors are Shakespeare, Jules Verne and Gabriel García Márquez. Currently, he is part of Universidad Javeriana’s PIJ in music. -“I came as fast as I could when you called me, Carlo. I am really interested to see your new collection of violins.”-“I know that, Ugo. You were the first person I told this”-. When I stepped first into my friend Carlo Berbeaumont´s violin shop, my heart was already rushing. That old styled building could or could not be the door to buy a new violin; something I have been planning since 1 998. Every time I was in front of it I felt powerful, as if some strange force was attracting me. In this occasion it wasn´t different. -“So Ugo, do you want to enter?”-“I would be pleased of that.-“ I said, trying to control my anxiety to get in. The first thing I did in the store was to grasp one violin; the first one I saw. It had a dark and sandy varnish; it wasn't for me. Its sound was to “sunny” and brilliant, also dry and without resonance. It reminded me of the climate of that day: too sunny and dry. I just had to play one note on that instrument to say to Carlo: -“Can you get me other violin?!”-“I can surely do that.”- 69
