Advance the building programme by initiating the redevelopment of the Special Needs Unit , completing the school Auditorium and progressing work on essential 10YPP projects .
Historical Position HNHS is an S68 designed school that was opened in 1975 . Over several years now refurbishment of a number of the teaching blocks has taken place due to wear and tear , along with a desire to create more modern learning spaces . This is all accomplished under the tight constraints of the 10YPP and the MOE formulae used to determine the school ’ s footprint .
Link to Strategic Plan Goals : Goal 1 : People . Goal 2 : Learning . Goal 6 : Property 2023 Goal 2023 marks the start of the new 10-year property plan for HNHS . Throughout 2022 , significant work occurred around the school campus including the renovation of the 300 block and preliminary planning for the rebuild of the 600 block ( previously Special Needs Unit ). Work on the 600 block starts in April and represents the largest rebuild the school has seen for decades . In conjunction with the 600 block rebuild will be the development of the Barham Commons performing arts precinct . This project will be undertaken independently by the school with support from the PTA . Other significant work from the 10YPP , scheduled for 2023 includes progressing the second stage of the Auditorium upgrade , resurfacing the netball and basketball courts and ensuring wheelchair access around the campus . The Board will be independently working to develop a more strategic approach to landscaping the school grounds with repsect to more appropriate planting following cyclone Gabrielle and increased seating for students .
