The planning team also compared the City of Lake Forest
facilities against other north shore recreation providers
selected by the task-force. Data for each community was
obtained from the most recently completed master plan
where available or provided directly from the recreation
agency to the City of Lake Forest.
The City of Lake Forest was compared against each of
the north shore communities (Glenview Park District,
Highland Park District, Village of Libertyville, Northbrook
Park District, and Northfield Park District) in population,
recreation and program square footage, and number of
amenities. The number of amenities was also compared
using the Chicagoland standard of square foot per person.
Overall, Lake Forest is very similar to the other north shore
communities when comparing square feet per person.
However, there are some significant amenities that the
City does not offer. Of the five communities, two have
indoor pools, three have at least one ice rink, one has
indoor turf, and one has an indoor track. Lake Forest does
not have any of these amenities.
