About 20 of the responses were about turf athletic fields. Most of the comments
referenced the frequent lack of availability due to poor drainage and flooding
of the fields. Residents also suggested that there are enough fields in the city
with 4 comments asking specifically for lacrosse and field hockey fields. About
5 comments suggested the addition of synthetic turf fields or the conversion of
existing natural fields as a solution and a few comments also suggested adding
sports lighting. Improving baseball fields was also suggested by 5 respondents,
these suggestions included adding synthetic turf, adding sports lighting, and
improving general upkeep.

Approximately 35 comments referred to the Department’s playgrounds. 8 of
the comments expressed disappointment in the lack of exciting and unique
play elements, particularly at recently remodeled locations. In addition to
playground equipment, respondents also requested adding shade structures
(5 comments) and splash pads (3 comments). Safety was a concern of many
respondents with about 10 related comments. About 7 respondents felt that
the equipment itself was unsafe or was poorly located within the playground.
3 comments expressed concerns about the age appropriateness of the
playgrounds and suggested adding designated areas for the youngest children.
1 comment requested adding exercise equipment or other adult activities at
playgrounds. 7 comments also suggested the complete removal of engineered
wood fiber, most suggested replacing it with rubber surfacing.
