Overview
Connect: Community Engagement and Needs Assessment. This chapter documents trends in the recreation industry and
specific input received from the City of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Department.
Purpose online engagement platform, available 24/7 for a
four-week period, gathered input from residents
about their thoughts on parks, programs, and
facilities. The planning team also considered the
results of the community survey conducted in
November 2016 independently of the planning
process.
In order to increase participation, knowing the
trends and interests of various user groups is
crucial. Significant changes in specific activities
(both increases and decreases) from national, state,
and local trends are summarized. Summaries of all
engagement sessions follow the national, state and
local trends report. Chapter Outline
The purpose of understanding park and recreation
trends is to determine probable demands for
certain services and amenities. Recreation trend
reports were compiled from nationally-recognized
sources to explore spending, participation, and
inactivity trends.
During the Connect phase of the master planning
process, the planning team reviewed trends,
conducted stakeholder surveys, and led workshops
with Department staff and the Park Board. An
