North Shore Communities Comparison
The planning team also compared the City of Lake Forest’s
amenities against several north shore recreation providers
selected by the task-force. Data for each community was
obtained from the most recently completed master plan
when available or verified by the agency.
The City of Lake Forest was compared against each of the
north shore communities (Glencoe Park District, Glenview
Park District, Highland Park District, Village of Libertyville,
Northbrook Park District, Northfield Park District, and
Winnetka) in population, the number of park properties,
acreage, and number of amenities. Amenity level of
service was also compared using the SCORP standard
of number of amenities per 1,000 population. This
information is summarized on the following pages.
Overall, the City of Lake Forest is fairly similar to the other
north shore communities with a few noted differences.
When comparing the averaged amenities per 1,000
population there are a few items that are below or above
the North Shore benchmarks. The top five amenities Lake
Forest is below the benchmark are:

• Playgrounds: -7
• Baseball: -4
• Basketball Courts: -3.5
• Pickleball Courts: -3
A few Lake Forest amenities are above the North Shore
benchmark. The amenities in which Lake Forest is most
above are:

• Soccer Fields: +3
• Picnic Shelters: +2
• Softball Fields: +2
• Fishing: +2
