A Sweet New Year and a Friendly Hello

Shanah Tovah! As we welcome a sweet new year, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to( re) introduce myself.
My name is Sara Solar, and I am the Youth & Family Engagement Coordinator for the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. Many of your children know me simply as Miss Sara from story time!
During the school year, I have the joy of reading to students at Charlotte Jewish Preschool and Jewish Preschool on Sardis, and during the summer, I share stories with Camp Katan and Camp Mindy kindergarten campers. Sitting with a great book and a room full of smiling faces is one of my favorite parts of my job.
I also have the privilege of coordinating PJ Library Charlotte, where I plan programs that bring Jewish families together to celebrate holidays, make friends, and create meaningful Jewish memories. Whether we’ re baking challah, splashing into summer, celebrating Shabbat, or enjoying a story together, my goal is to help families connect with one another and with Jewish life in Charlotte.
If your family isn’ t already enrolled in PJ Library, I encourage you to sign up! PJ Library sends free, high-quality Jewish children’ s books each month to families with children from birth through age 12, and your subscription also connects you to fun local events and programs throughout the year.
I love using this Kids’ Corner space to share book recommendations, holiday ideas, family activities, and reflections on parenting and Jewish life. I hope you’ ll stop by and say hello at an upcoming PJ Library event. Whether you’ re a familiar face or joining us for the first time, I’ d love to meet you!
Looking for a simple Rosh Hashanah activity to do with your children? Make apple prints! Cut an apple in half, insert a fork into the rounded back to use as a handle, dip the cut side into paint, and stamp it onto paper to create a beautiful apple orchard. It’ s a fun way to celebrate the holiday while talking about wishing one another a sweet New Year.
