their“ inner fortress.”
The heart of the class was found in the realization that mental wellness is a skill that can be practiced. From mapping out a“ Circle of Control” to writing heartfelt letters to their future selves, students learned to manage life’ s challenges with intention and resilience. By the end of the journey, it was clear that these weren’ t just lessons on a page; they were life skills in action. An additional way we worked to support mental wellness was by embarking on daylong outdoor hikes on days when school was not in session. These hikes offered a chance to get outside, move, unplug, and connect with friends in nature while supporting whole-being wellness. Time in nature, movement, and positive connection all play a powerful role in supporting kids’ emotional, mental, and physical well-being.
