Don ’ t miss the Pink Ball Tournament

Cheryl Barnum writes the monthly “ Seasoned Niner ” profile for our Villager article . It is fun reading about our longtime members and learning
FIEWEGER things we did not know ! I decided that it was her turn , so I interviewed Cheryl .
The Niners have a seasoned member that is a born and bred Oregonian . Cheryl Barnum grew up in Milwaukie and attended Oregon State University and married her college sweetheart . Bob is also a true Oregonian from Lake Oswego . Cheryl is from an athletic family with a brother who was an All-American football player from Washington State University ( WSU ). Tired of seeing her daughter run “ pass routes ” for her brother , mom enrolled Cheryl in dance classes .
Cheryl took 12 years of tap dancing and became a professional dancer with a dance line in Portland called The Claydettes . They performed various shows for Portland attractions . She also did a stint with the Ernie Flatt Dancers on the Carol Burnett Show .
Cheryl came back to attend OSU , married Bob , and lived in Eugene and

Portland . Cheryl was the chairperson of the cookbook , “ A Taste of Oregon ,” sportswear buyer for Cedar Hill Racquet Club and the manager for a ladies clothing store called The Clothes Tree .
She and Bob have lived in Charbonneau for 10 years and Cheryl has been a member of the Niners for eight years . She loves helping out with all the Niners activities , including Pink Ball , scrambles , and her favorite , the end-of-the-year banquet performance .
She most enjoys being a member of the Niner Charbonnettes and is now in her sixth season ! Cheryl assists Joanna Sawyer with the theme and song selection . Best part of being a Niner ? All the fun that comes with her friendships with so many Niners .
Cheryl says the banquet and performance , “ Queens of Music ” will be fun and entertaining ! So put on your dancing shoes and enjoy the show ! Look for Cheryl in the “ Nine to Five ” skit !
While visiting The Charbonneau Salon to solicit donations to Pink Ball , a lady overheard me say , “ The Niners are hosting the 18th annual Pink Ball Golf Tournament .” She said , “ Did you say Niners ? I was one of the original Niners ( moved to Charbonneau over 20 years ago ).” I updated Thelma on how we have grown , and of the wonderful outreach programs we provide . She was a friend of Peg Watson , who started Pink Ball . Thelma will be turning 94 on Nov . 7 . She will get a cupcake from the Niners !
Another Niner from years ago is Kay Williamson , also living in Spring- Ridge . Kay is a past president and has some fun stories . She called me to donate
her golf clubs , shoes and golf bag to us to support Wilsonville Girls Golf . There was a score card in the bag from 10 years ago , though I won ’ t reveal the score .
I am going to locate as many Niners from the past living in either SpringRidge and / or Charbonneau to join us for our annual banquet .
We decided to not continue to include our regular Tuesday Play Day scores in our article . They are posted on the Niners ’ website and outside the Pro Shop on the bulletin board . Unless we get another hole-in-one ( thanks Maureen Larsen )!
There is still time to sign up for the Pink Ball Golf Tournament , Tuesday , Sept . 14 . We are looking for premium wine donations ($ 30 and up ), fun baskets , gift cards , etc . You can be creative with an auction item . Like my cookies and baked goods ? I am donating a dozen cookies being delivered to your home along with a loaf of banana white chocolate caramel walnut bread monthly . On Easter , Thanksgiving and Christmas you will receive a festive pound cake .
Michael Allan Harrison will be playing golf with a lucky group and entertaining us on the piano as we come in .
We have seven exciting oral auction items including an executive home in Glen Eden Beach Oregon ( four bedroom , ocean front views for four nights ), wine events at both Lady Hill and Tumwater Vineyards including catering , a beautiful rug from Northwest Carpets and a two-night stay at the Cavalier Beachfront Condominiums .
Want to try Sky Diving ? Cheryl Barnum ’ s son , Bret , a retired Portland police officer , is a sky diving instructor ! He will be taking one of us on a fun ride from the sky !
Next issue will have the highlights of the Pink Ball Golf Tournament , the new 2021 Niners Club Champion and our final season scramble , Good-Bye Troubles , Hello Bubbles !
