Reminders for crime prevention and security

Last month we sent an email reminder that covered several different topics . This column is intended to review those
SWITZER issues , as well as discuss a few more .
Charbonneau crime prevention tips
After several car and garage break-ins in our area , the EPPS Committee issued some crime prevention tips . The common sense approach works best but sometimes we all get a little complacent . Most criminals are not masterminds who craft clever schemes to swipe our stuff . They generally are casual opportunists . Thieves see something they want and they take it . Don ’ t make it easy for them . Consider the following :
Car security
Before you get out of your car , make sure your valuable items ( like mobile phones , backpacks , shopping bags or keys ) are out of sight .
 Lock your car .
Park in your garage , if possible .
Make sure your outdoor lights are working and use them .
Home security
Keep your doors ( home and garage ) closed and locked particularly at night .
Share your name and telephone number with all the neighbors you can see from your home and ask for their contact information as well .
Call each other if something seems out of place .
Request a free vacation check from the Charbonneau Security Patrol ( 503-207-5300 ) whenever you are away .
ALTA / CHOA lighting
At the same time we are trying to be vigilant , we need to also be courteous to our neighbors . There are over 500 homes located along the golf course , many of them in the ALTA or CHOA homeowners associations . In most cases , your backyard lighting shines across the fairway into your neighbor ’ s windows . This has become increasingly problematic as more people are using backyard decorative lighting , party lights and all night security lights . ALTA has had enough complaints and questions about this that they included a practical lighting guide to all of their residents .
Simple good neighbor steps include reducing the brightness to no more than necessary , warm bulbs , light timers and motion detectors for security lights . Have your direct lighting fall only where needed and not cross your property line . This approach is not only the good neighbor way , it is also more cost efficient as well as planet friendly .

• Lighting Additions
Facilities guidelines
Vaccinated guests are not required to wear masks . Unvaccinated guests or guests that have additional safety concerns are requested to wear a mask in CCC facilities . We will continue to follow OHA guidelines and ask our members to be responsible and respectful and staying home if you are not feeling well .
However , as we have seen this week and maybe even before this month ’ s Villager is published , we are experiencing a second wave of COV- ID-19 cases throughout the state . Regardless of your stand or opinions of vaccination or masks , CCC will continue to follow the guidelines set out by the Clackamas County Health Department .
There is also a possibility that we may have to go back to the Zoom platform for our board meetings .
Ghosts in the machine
Late Friday , Aug . 6 , the CCC website loaded its own page from the early COVID-19 days and announced that everything was suspended . Our staff and IT consultants were not sure what happened . On Monday , they were able to fix it . We have begun the process of insuring that it does not happen again . We know it was not hacked and we an idea about what happened , but we are not sure .
If you see something on the website that you have a question about , then please call the CCC office . In this case , it was a weekend , making that difficult . We are working with our IT consultant to have the ability to correct those types of errors faster without bothering staff on the weekend .

wildfire and ice storm , we have learned important lessons and are putting those lessons to work to build a better plan . Our new Activity Center will be capable of providing back-up electricity for a warming center , support our communications network and house our first-aid materials .
Every home in Charbonneau should have a RED folder filled with information about the plan and what first steps to take both in your own home and in your neighborhood . If you do not have a RED Emergency Preparedness Plan packet , email Sandy Batte at sebatte @ gmail . com .
The minimum we are asking of homeowners is that they be prepared to take the “ 9 steps immediately following a disaster ” as noted in your packet materials . Please pay particular attention to the drop , cover and hold instructions . There is also valuable information on 72-hour emergency kits , how to store water and emergency sanitation . Additional information may be found on the Charbonneau website : https :// charbonneaucountryclub . com / just click on the Emergency Prep and Safety tab .
From FEMA : “ By taking action to be prepared , you can lessen the impact of an earthquake on your family . Self-sufficiency during this time is key .
“ Movement of the ground is seldom the actual cause of death or injury . Most casualties result from partial building collapse and falling objects and debris , such as toppling chimneys , falling bricks , ceiling plaster , and light fixtures . Many of these conditions are easily preventable .”
On Oct . 21 , Charbonneau will be participating in the Oregon ’ s annual ShakeOut drill . It is extremely important that we all practice what to do immediately following a major emergency , watch the October Villager for news on ShakeOut !
