CCC President ’ s Column

By GARY NEWBORE

A list of activities , ways to get involved in Charbonneau

Hello everyone .
It is hard to believe that summer is almost over . A fairly new resident asked me the other day , " What is
NEWBORE there to do in Charbonneau ?" I later thought about that and decided that would be a good topic for this month ' s column . Here are some of the activities available to our residents :
Sports : Of course there is golf , but there ' s also tennis and pickleball .
Golf clubs : Men ' s Club , Niners , Charbonneau Women ' s Golf Association . They all meet weekly during the season .
Games : Mahjong meets weekly ; hand in foot meets monthly ; duplicate bridge meets weekly ; ladies bridge meets weekly ; men ' s poker has two groups that each meet monthly ; bunco meets monthly .
Exercise : Aerobics meets three times per week ; yoga meets twice a week ; chair fitness meets twice week ; Niners dance group meets weekly in the summer ; aging backwards meets twice a week .

Arts : Arts festival planning committee meets monthly ; watercolor class meets weekly .
Board committees : Charbonneau Tennis Club Board meets monthly ; Asset Management Committee meets monthly , Financial Oversight Committee meets monthly ; Emergency Preparedness / Public Safety Committee meets monthly .
Charitable : Sunshine Service is ongoing ; Boys & Girls Aid meets monthly .
Other activities : Cornhole meets November through March ; Solo Sisters meets monthly ; Knotty Knitters meets twice a month ; Wadley Quilters meets twice a month ; Book Club , meets twice a month .
CCC Activities : Fourth Friday resident dinner occurs three times in winter ; dinner concerts occur two or three times during winter ; WilsonvilleSTAGE occurs three nights in a row in the winter ; trips to shows and activities take place two or three times per year .
I could have very well missed an organization , so if I did , please let me know . Also , some activities that were meeting before the pandemic have not restarted .
I have read many times that four keys to long life are genetics , exercise , eating right and being social . One of our missions at Charbonneau is to provide activities for people to be social . If you aren ' t involved in any of the above activities , please look into them . Call Jennifer at the clubhouse for activity contact information . If you have an activity you would like to see started , such as a car club , pinochle , or a travel club , as examples , please contact any board member or our staff with your suggestion and we will help you get an organization started .

month is Steve Switzer . Steve and his wife , Lee , have lived in Charbonneau since 2013 and he has been on the board since May 2019 . After his military service he worked in the California Legislature and has had his own public relations and marketing consulting firm since 1984 . He chairs two important committees : The first is the Civic Affairs Committee , which maintains contact with neighboring government jurisdictions and follows the legislative process regarding bills that are potentially harmful to HOAs . The second is the Communications Committee which governs how the board and staff communicate with our residents .
He said , " Our goal is to ensure that all Charbonneau residents have access to the decisions and plans made by the board . We are very close to unveiling our new website and look forward to being able to renew our community outreach ."
Steve loves golf and even beat me one time ( but then again who doesn ' t ).
So , I asked my wife , Ellen , the other day what she thought of my first few columns . Her reply was , " You still write like an engineer with short , choppy sentences and have never discovered what adjectives and adverbs are ."
Yep , that ' s me . Happy Labor Day everyone .
