Sunshine Service

By JOAN VEDDER

Donations are not necessary but they are appreciated

Don ’ t look at your calendar . Summer is almost over ! The heat waves were tough to deal with , especially for those of us who don ’ t have
VEDDER air conditioning .
Sleeping under a ceiling fan was the best I could do .
The theme this month is “ teamwork ” and it certainly holds true for the Sunshine volunteer team . It ’ s our chance to help you with medical and home care needs that you can borrow on a shortterm basis . I say short term but obviously that varies with the speed in which you recover . For most people , it ’ s about six weeks but it can be a bit longer . Aging in place is our goal , so that you can avoid

Solo Sisters

We know how to have fun

I hate to say this , but we ( including yours truly ) did it again ! For our July social event , 28 Solo Sisters gathered in the Pavilion for a potluck dinner and a blind wine tasting .
The food was varied and delicious , but it ’ s the wine tasting that intrigues me . Once again , in both the red and the white wine categories , the $ 3 wines came out on top . The Charles Shaw Pinot Noir beat out a $ 42 bottle of Domaine Serene , and a Bay Bridge Pinot Gris ( on an end cap at Fred Meyers near the ketchup and mayo ) beat out a $ 15 King Estate Pinot Gris . lengthy rehabs in other places . Home is always the best place to be !
Thanks to those of you who show gratitude for our service , we were able to purchase a very nice wheelchair ramp . It has a no-skid covering and is quite portable for the user . Small gifts ( to Sunshine ) add up , enabling us to keep up with needed equipment . Donations are not necessary but they are gratefully accepted by our service .
One of the things I enjoy the most , is meeting so many wonderful people ! I love to share stories with you and learn all about you . As the old saying goes , “ We are more alike than we think we are ,” and Charbonneau brings that point home . We live here for a reason : to feel safe , to enjoy nature at its best , and to be acknowledged . The volunteer team who work alongside me , are very special ladies . They are all trained to assist you whenever needed . Please remember to move down the list in your directory if the first person doesn ’ t answer ! We are just regular people with commitments , etc . so we will not be available all the time . I assure you that somebody is bound to be home !
Thanks to many of you who ask how I am doing since my husband passed away recently . I keep very busy and allow myself private moments to grieve . The memories are a blessing 24 / 7 .
Now , I don ’ t know about the rest of the Solo Sister membership , but I have an excuse for choosing the $ 3 wines — compromised taste buds due to a nasal condition . But I must admit , I am embarrassed by the rest of the wine tasters in our group . Though some of the results were close , you still can ’ t argue with the final result , namely we are a group made up of a lot of cheap winos . Oh well , we do know how to have fun , and there ’ s always next year . By then , my taste buds should be working !
Our treasurer for the last couple of years has been Karen Giardina . Karen has been an important member of our planning committee , but she has decided to let someone else take over as bean counter and she will just attend and enjoy our events . Mary Costa , who moved here last month from Santa Rosa , will be taking over the treasurer ’ s duties . Mary was treasurer of the single ’ s
