Summer season comes to an end , but more golf to play

This month ’ s theme is Transitions , a segue from summer to fall , and the end of another successful season of CWGA golf . It ’ s been different , to say the least ! The season started late as we figured out how to safely deal with scorecards and day ’ s play . We canceled the scrambles and shotgun starts but managed to figure out how to make the games fun and create opportunities to play with new people . Our player numbers have been high , as most of us have stayed home for the summer . We missed our New Member get-togethers and monthly luncheons , Guest Day and the big event of Men ’ s Invitational . We ’ ve all learned to meet via Zoom , to wear a mask indoors and to keep our gatherings small . Now it ’ s almost time to say adios to the snowbirds as they head to their desert abodes , and those of us who stay year-round can only hope for some mild weather so we can play golf as long as possible . Meanwhile , there ’ s lots of news to report , and still more golf to play !
Carlyne Lynch wins Club Championship in playoff
Congratulations to Carlyne Lynch , who won the Club Championship in a playoff against 2019 champion , Alex Carney . This is the second time the pair ended regulation play with a tie score . In 2018 , Carney won the playoff . This year , Lynch prevailed , allowing her to win the Club Championship for the 12th time since 2000 . Details of all the scores and notable play can be found below .
Kudos to Men ’ s Club and CWGA volunteers
Thanks to the Men ’ s Club for allowing our members to contribute their time and talents during the Charbonneau Points Shoot-Out , this year ’ s replacement for the annual Men ’ s Invitational , Aug . 6 and 7 . Traditionally our biggest volunteer effort and source of revenue , CWGA co-chairs Kathy Harp and Jan Landis were ready to coordinate all the help needed when Men ’ s Club chair Ford Morishita presented plans for the pareddown event . Although they needed fewer red-shirted volunteers than normal , our members contributed where they could , and CWGA gratefully accepted the reduced stipend that helps us “ keep the lights on .”

Oct . 8 Stagette reimagined
Stagette is our annual end-of-year celebration , usually taking most of the day and evening , including golf , horse race , annual meeting and dinner . In recent years we ’ ve played golf in Halloween costumes , pajamas , and go-go boots , sung karaoke and been entertained by the Niners . This year , cochairs
Ginny Moir and Barbara Barber had hoped to have an abbreviated celebration after golf in the new covered Pavilion , but COVID-19 restrictions once again will force us to minimize our group activities . There will be golf mixer , combining A , B , C and D players , picking up a sack lunch at the turn , and receiving a celebratory glass of prosecco at the end . The Annual Meeting will be held via Zoom , with details to be sent via email .
CWGA WIP Team
Every year , CWGA fields a team to compete in OGA ’ s Women ’ s Interclub Play ( WIP ) against other clubs in Oregon and SW Washington . This year ’ s team has done well , ranked in eighth place out of 13 teams . The match play teams are paired by handicap , a bit of a disadvantage for our players , whose handicaps are not necessarily competitive with our counterparts at standard courses . Kudos to team members Alex Carney , Jean Czubin , Brenda
