Solo Sisters

By CANDY FERGUSON

Sharing some puppy love

November is veteran ’ s month and the membership of Solo Sisters salutes all veterans and thank you for your service . I was hoping to write a “ Vets and Pets ” article this month , because I liked the title , but was unable to find any vets ( the soldier kind , not the doctor kind ) in our group . However , I am pleased to introduce three Solo Sisters who have become “ mommies ” to new pets since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and the isolation that has come with it . Here they are , in their own words .
Lissa Willis — TiraMisu , one year old this month , is a Red Siberian Husky rescued from Mt . Hood , where she was abandoned . She ’ s getting better about meeting strangers ( especially if they have treats ) and we ’ re working on separation anxiety next .

Beau , Jane Alwen ’ s dog . Misu , Lissa Willis ’ dog . Daphne , Paula Johnson ’ s dog . getting another dog this year but with COVID-19 , all the breeders have had waiting lists . My timing was perfect and I think it was meant to be when I called a breeder and the original family taking the puppy had a family emergency and couldn ’ t take him . Before I knew it , I had a puppy ! He could not be sweeter or more loving . He is a Bernedoodle and his name is Beau and is 10 weeks old as of Oct . 6 . I am anxious to get out on walks with him but until he has his shots we will be sticking close to home . Things are a little wild and crazy around here to say the least but I am loving it all .
Paula Johnson — I too , have a new fur baby . I planned to get a puppy at the first of the year once I returned from traveling . Little did I know at that time of the things to come . I brought Daphne
home at the beginning of May . She is a Havaton ( Havanese / Coton de Tulear mix ), with a big personality , too cute for her own good , and definitely a handful ! She ’ s 7 months old and about eight pounds . Besides providing endless entertainment and companionship , her unconditional love has been a blessing during the unusual times we live in .
When I sent out my request to membership for “ new pet ” stories , I received a couple of other responses that certainly deserve to be printed . Here they are :
Alice Swartz wrote : I was Missy ’ s ( tabby cat ) foster “ parent ” for two-and-ahalf years . She was diabetic and had hyperthyroid so she was not a prime candidate for adoption . She was wonderful company for two-and-a-half years until she passed in May . About six weeks later , I brought home Mya from the shelter to foster . She ’ s a lovely , seal point kitty who is 16 years old and is on “ hospice .” The vet has determined she has a tumor and because of her age , they are not prolonging her life with treatment . Mya is such a sweetheart and I will enjoy her every day until her last one . If you ’ re interested in adopting a kitty or fostering , please email me at alice @ fpm . org .
Gerri Gorney wrote : I have no pets but I have just returned from a weeklong camping trip with my son and his four rescued dogs . Loved the dogs and grateful to people who have the time and ability to care for and pamper the animals .
Charbonneau has a huge pet population and every pet has a story . It has been fun sharing a few here with you !
