Comradery can be experienced during golf

We don ’ t often think of comradery in terms of golf as it is considered an individual sport . But in the CWGA there are plenty
STRATON of opportunities to experience it . Webster defines comradery as “ a feeling of goodwill among people in a group .”
The first known usage of the word was about the fellowship between soldiers who have experienced the crucible of combat together . Well , we are not soldiers , but we certainly can understand the heat of the battle in competition ! The trick is to stay positive and have fun . The prizes for winning are nice , but the relationships we establish are all the more valuable .
On May 6 , many participated in our scramble . A fun day was made even more pleasant as the rain held off during play . Here are the results :
First place : Susan Taylor , Kathy Stout , Rose Mason , Anne Straton
Second place : Tricia Smith , Elizabeth Knudson , Lou Moultrie , Janet Moore
Tied for third place : Deborah Ulrich , Judy Schaumburg , Carla Robertson Jan Watson , Amy Day , Kathie Barton , Dorothy Rodegerdts Joann Linville , Deb Tyler , Suzanne Buxton , Melinda Pence
Congratulations to our winners ! Good teamwork ! The Partners Tournament is scheduled for June 17 . Grab your partner and be ready to sign up . If you don ’ t have a specific partner in mind , we will find one for you . Your invitation will be sent out via Golf Genius , and as in the past , upon check-in we will be collecting $ 5 from each player to be used for prizes . Because of COVID-19 restrictions , we will have tee times rather than a shotgun start . However , we do hope to gather later in the afternoon to award prizes and celebrate . All tournament details will be sent out on the website soon . If you have any questions , feel free to contact Sharon Kadell , Kathy Stout or Rose Mason .
Every week in the CWGA season provides a new opportunity for golf comradery . We hope you will join us and find out what it ’ s all about . In the words of professional golfer Amy Alcott , “ Keep your sense of humor . There ’ s enough stress in the rest of your life not to let bad shots ruin a game you ’ re supposed to enjoy .” Well said ... soldier on !
And thanks to the fathers in our lives , our other comrades !
